Hydrotrack Aquatic Rehabilitation
Why perform exercises in the water?
The buoyancy of water offers a low-impact environment that reduces stress on the joints and musculoskeletal system. Other properties of water help decrease pain and swelling through hydrostatic pressure and warmth, improve mobility by reducing weight-bearing forces, build strength through natural resistance, and support better circulation and controlled movement.
Who Can Benefit from the Hydrotrack?
Use of the Hydrotrack can benefit patients recovering from arthritis and other joint conditions, joint replacement surgery, low back pain, and sports or orthopaedic injuries, as well as those who have difficulty with traditional land-based exercise due to pain, swelling, or limited mobility. For athletes, it also provides a way to begin running and conditioning earlier in the rehabilitation process while minimizing stress on healing tissues.
After your initial evaluation, your physical therapist will determine whether use of the Hydrotrack is appropriate for your condition and goals. It is often used as a bridge to land-based rehabilitation, helping patients restore movement, strength, and function before progressing to more demanding activity.
