Fall Prevention & Balance Training

Falls and balance problems can affect confidence, mobility, and independence. Our Fall Prevention & Balance Training program identifies factors contributing to instability and provides individualized treatment to improve balance, strength, and safety.

Fall & Balance Assessment

A comprehensive assessment may be appropriate if you have experienced a fall or feel increasingly unsteady. Our physical therapists evaluate factors that can affect balance, including lower-extremity strength and sensation, posture, proprioception, reaction time, vision, walking, and overall balance.

Standardized gait and balance testing helps identify specific areas of concern and guides the development of your treatment program. We may also provide recommendations to help reduce fall risks in your home.

Individualized Balance Training

Your treatment program is tailored to the findings of your assessment and may include strengthening and flexibility exercises, postural training, balance and coordination activities, and walking on different surfaces and in progressively challenging environments.

The goal is to improve stability, mobility, confidence, and safety during everyday activities.

Coordination with Your Physician

We communicate our findings and progress with your physician and coordinate care as needed throughout your rehabilitation.

Length of Treatment

Treatment varies based on individual needs. Patients are typically seen twice per week for approximately 45 minutes, with meaningful improvements often occurring within one to two months.

At discharge, you will receive a personalized home exercise program to help maintain and continue the progress achieved during therapy.
